hospital is at 1500 Commonwealth Ave., Williamsburg

Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs (Mental Health)
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): Short-term, intensive outpatient care, for those not
needing – or those stepping down from – inpatient care. Programs typically are 7 – 10 days in
length for 6 hours a day and combine individual assessment, psychiatric medication
management, and therapeutic, psychoeducational, and peer support groups.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): These programs are a step down from PHP, while still
providing greater support than typical outpatient therapy. They typically last 6 – 10 weeks and
meet 3 days a week for 3 hours a day. Individual assessment, psychiatric medication
consultation, and group education and support are included

Virtual IOP: Charlie Health
Charlie Health is an Online Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for those with mental health
concerns:
● Serves ages 11-34 years old, with only our perinatal mental health track being 18+
● Specialized group programming based on client lived experience, including specific
tracks for LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Neurodivergent, and Perinatal clients
● No waitlist, INN with all major commercial insurance and Tricare in Virginia

Programs for children and adolescents
● VTCC (Virginia Treatment Center for Children) at VCU (Richmond): Phone: 855-546-7792
Prior to inpatient admission, children must be screened by a qualified mental
health professional, which can be the child's regular mental health provider, who reaches
out to VTCC. They admit children around the clock.
● Chippenham Hospital - Pediatric Behavioral Health (Richmond) Phone: 804-483-0050.
Inpatient program offers stabilization for children/adolescents 5 to 17 years old
who are in need of acute treatment. Average length of stay is 5-7 days. They also offer
PHP for children/adolescents. Visit the ER for emergency assessment or schedule an
assessment through the website.
● Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health (Norfolk): Phone: 757-461-4565 Offers no-
cost mental health assessments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is no referral
needed from a doctor, emergency room or mental health professional. Accepts most
insurance.
● CHKD Children’s Pavilion (Norfolk) Phone: 757-668-4673 Requires referral from a
CHKD pediatrician OR for a more immediate evaluation, CHKD’s emergency department
offers evaluation by a mental health therapist around-the-clock.
NAMI (Nat’l Alliance for Mental Health - Williamsburg
NAMI Williamsburg is a support, education and advocacy organization for and by
individuals with serious mental illnesses, their families and friends. NAMI Williamsburg
is dedicated to improving the quality of life and attaining the highest potential of
recovery of persons with brain disorders, such as schizophrenia, major depression and
bipolar disorder among others. The affiliate is open to all persons who promote the
recovery, and care about the quality of life, of persons with a serious mental illness.
